Sometimes that's what you've just got to do in lue of an instruction manual

As I have a Mac mini, it doesn’t have a microphone. my old one had a round
input for a mic right next to the speaker jack but this new one doesn’t. I have
several microphones but they all have what we used to call mini plugs. I think
that might be 3.5 mm. what do I need to do if I want to plug o
You are right about getting the dongle or some kind of adapter that is if you
want to use those microphones that you presently have. It might be easier or
better to just get a hold of a USB microphone.

Actually, the 3.5mm jack on the back of your Mac mini is both a headphone jack,
and a microphone input.
It is designed to work with wired EarPods that used to come with iPhones.
If you still have some of those 3.5mm EarPods, they work very well with your
Mac mini or a MacBook Air or Pro.
