1. Scanning the document and getting an image.
2. Converting the image to text.

didn't say anything when I pressed the key where I thought it should be. later
I found how to eject the cd via a menu I saw. my question is: is it possible to
tie the eject function to that key that's blank?

There is already a macOS keyboard command for Eject.
The command is CMD + E.

I know about that but I didn't think of it in the context of ejecting cd's. I
suppose eject is eject after all.
