This should not happen, unless the program itself is modifying its package

reinstalled them from the appstore only to find the same behaviour. I have no
idea where else I could look to change this.

Yep that would explain why Alex is crashing your computer. It's an issue with
2010 Macs that needs to be addressed but probably won't be. I would use a

Also, forgot to mention this, but I think that ad was misleading. The last
MacBooks to have DVD drives in them were I think either the 2012 or 2013
models. Someone can clear that up for me if I'm wrong but 2010 models were
certainly not the last ones in them to have DVD drives in them.

I am using a 2015 iMac, and alex stops talking when I’m navigating the finder.
Sometimes I get speech back by closing the folder and right arrow to open it
again, but speech stops again as soon as I start navigating up or down the list
of files in that folder.
