iTunes back up questions

I just did a back up of my iPad preparatory to installing iOS 9. When I went to get the update, it told me I had purchased items which should be transferred, and did I want to continue anyway? So I canceled out and tried to find a way to get the purchased items to transfer over. I did a "sink".
