If you're referring to alert sounds in general (and I'm sure Mail supports
using those), they can be any format that quicktime supports. So not just aiff,
but also wav/mp3/m4a/caf/au will work. Just put them in ~/library/sounds and
most apps should pick them up.

For those of you who want advancement in technology. I am posting to both
lists as in a manner of speaking we all use Apple products.
We should all write to apple and state that we'd like Voice Over to work with

So the table is how it's supposed to be? I have never used this kind of form on
either platform, and expected a prompt, then something VO would identify as a
text field, for instance. Also, I had sighted help filling this one out, and we
noticed that a line of hint text appeared when you put you
A simpler method would be to simply copy the column, then insert a new column
where you want the data, and then do a paste. Move to the top of the column,
then do a shift command down arrow to select the entire column. Then do an
option right arrow at the column after which you want the data to
Dear Christine,
Hope you're well. I remember having this conversation with you earlier this
year. Since then, I've figured out a work around to open Bookshare files in

you downloaded and search for the file with the
If it's from a format supported by QuickTime, then the avconvert tool should
help you. Otherwise, ffmpeg.

You know the vo + f command.
But how to search next phrase or search backwards?
Thanks.

Hi all. So I have my mac, with a full-sized USB keyboard from Logitech.
I want to use it with my iPod, so that I can just keep using the same
keyboard and everything, and type faster on the iPod. Are there any free
programs/apps that can do simply that? I don't need anything fansy.

Hi,
I appear to already have the newest Flash as when I went to System Prefs in the
Flash pane and told it to check for updates, it answered that I have the newest
one already. I don't recall having any issues doing the install. What sort of
problems are you having?

Hi all,
I was doing some research this morning about connecting directly to my Comcast
modem. It occurred to me, that I can't do this with my Macbook Air.
Is this the cable I'd need? I'm not sure if my network is gigabit fast, how
much does this matter?
Thank you,

The only one I'm aware of is type2phone. It does work, but costs $5 or so.

That would work. Still, a better idea is to not connect directly to
a modem no matter what method you employ.
Much better and safer is to have a router connect to the modem and
you connect to the router.
You can do that either through a cable or over wifi.

Yes, that's the adaptor you're looking for. Simply plug the adaptor into your
MacBook Air, and an Ethernet cable from the other end of the adaptor to your
cable modem. Often, the default settings will just work, using DHCP.
I don't see any problem with connecting directly to the Internet, as l

Hi Barry and Phil,
Thanks both for your help.
Barry, your tip of first VO-spacing on the column reference tab took me further
than I had gotten before, but still no success. The results were a bit flaky.
I'm not sure I exactly understood your instructions. After VO-spacing on the

Ahh, Alex, wishful thinking. If only that were the case. I don't think it's
that good on either platform. Only web forms are that accessible. You could
quite easily hack something like that together with AppleScript, but the forms
themselves are, in Pages anyway, just regular old word processing

Hello Nicholas.
After you selected the tab with vo-space, did you route the mouse to vo with
vo-command-f5? You want to do that before you lock the mouse. That is the
only reason I can come up with as to why the menu was activated.
You might try hiding any other open windows with command-optio
Hi Barry,
In that case I did understand you correctly. Yes, I routed the mouse to the VO
cursor with VO-command-F5 before pressing mouse down (even though this is often
not necessary when I have the mouse pointer to always follow the VO cursor). I

I have the hang of this now; you write in the same cell as the prompt, not the

After checking VO Utility turns out I didn't have the mouse pointer following
the VO cursor. I changed this so now it is. I checked and the magnification was

I tried again but still got the same result with the mouse down opening the

Funny, I type my responses in the column to the right of the column with the
