Hi,
These sorts of messages technically happen when the software cannot be
automatically updated. Some software remains running all the time, like OS X
Server, and other software could be open at the time of the attempted update,
thus it is not able to perform the desired update at that time.
Interesting. I wouldn't have thought that would do it either. Glad it did,
though.

I think those are just from the notification center. I wonder if they can be
turned off from the notification center preferences. I have my downloads set to
automatic, but I get a details button in the install prompt, which is not a
notification center update.

Yeah. I got the prompt. Closed it. Went to the app store and checked the

It's the Mac app store. you can adjust preferences for it in system prefs, app
store. I have mine set to automatic, so I don't get those prompts. The
automatic setting updates system files. It appears there isn't a details button
for those system files anymore. here's a discussion of this issue:
Usually, these are being handled by Notification Centre and I hate them. I just
click on Later and then go to Software update to see what it was. It's yet
another thing they haven't got right in Mavericks.

Anne

I would not assume it is something from Apple, Apple usually lets you know what

I'm getting the same notification and I don't know what it is either. I am
assuming it is something from Apple, but that's probably a bad assumption

Hi all,
For some time now, I've been getting a weird prompt to install a software
update. The message reads, "Do you want to install now, or try tonight?" But
there is no name or company affiliation given. My husband says that there is a
symbol of an A formed by the crossing of a ruler and a
