I wonder if you have Group and/or sorting enabled for the desktop. You should
be able to check by pulling up the contextual menu. There should be a check box
next to grouping if it is enabled.

Actually, I don't think you're right. At some point, when I was trying to sort
this out, I heard VO say something about a stack in relation to the January
item. And when I deleted January, all my desktop items disappeared except
Macintosh HD.

Sounds like you somehow created an alias for FaceTime. You shouldn’t have any
issues deleting it from your Desktop.
