What makes you say that? VueScan and ABBYY FineReader work seamlessly together
once they are set up correctly. Also, DocuScan only hand

The 600f is working, but the ocr programs don't seem to be nearly as
flexible and feature rich as Omnipage for Windows. Specifically, it does not
seem possible to select portions of the image that you want ocr done on.
Hello Mary,
Prizmo for the Mac is an application you can buy through the Mac Appstore. It
handles both scanning and OCR, and it is more or less usable with VoiceOver,
but way too complicated to be worth the effort for a VoiceOver user.

Hi Anne,
Is Prismo for the Mac a separate scanning program like vuescan or Abbyy Or is

Hello Mary,
For your husband, Prizmo for the Mac allows you to select portions of the
scanned image to OCR. It's very difficult for a blind person to use but a
sighted person can use it easily.

Obviously, Nuance doesn't seem to think there is much of a market for OCR
software on the Mac.

HI all,
Hello Mary,
VueScan does indeed do OCR, and in English, it does it really quite well. For
your husband, VueScan is probably the way to go.
For blind users, the problem with VueScan is that it only does OCR when the
page is correctly aligned, whereas ABBYY FineReader takes care of orientation

Hi Anne,
Thanks for the quick and thorough reply. Doesn't vuescan do ocr? What I'm
wondering is whether one needs both Abbyy FR and vuescan. I thought I
remembered somebody saying that vuescan will do ocr, but maybe I'm nuts. It
looks like there isn't a way from within Pages to start scanning li
Hello Mary,
The first thing to do is to check on the Canon site for a new driver for this
scanner. They never come with truly up-to-date drivers for Mac.
Then, get the latest version of VueScan.
In VueScan, set the scan resolution to 300DPI. Set external editor to default.

HI all,
My husband just bought a macbook air that he hopes to use for school. He has a
canon scanner model lide 600f that he's been using with Omnipage in Windows,
but there is no Omnipage for Mac apparently. Does anybody have experience with
this scanner and vuescan or abbyy FR express? He had
