Hello Mary,

The first thing to do is to check on the Canon site for a new driver for this
scanner. They never come with truly up-to-date drivers for Mac.

Then, get the latest version of VueScan.

In VueScan, set the scan resolution to 300DPI. Set external editor to default.
Set the output file type to TIFF and make sure that all TIFF files always open
with ABBYY FineReader.

I haven't got the same scanner as you, but I've used both a Canoscan Lide 700F
and a Canoscan Lide 110 and both produce excellent scans.

Cheers,

Anne
