Okay, I'm apparently not doing something right. Pressing the arrow
keys or period and comma keys aren't moving me through the song. Is

Yes, though I believe it will move the position even when stopped. Space always
starts from the current cursor position, or plays the selected region if you
mark both sides, so pressing space when the music is stopped should start where
you are positioned.

You can press the left bracket for the start point and right bracket for the
end point of the segment you wish to delete. Then just press backspace.
