You can try IIna for playing media files.
I have it and its accessible.
Do a google search for Iina for Mac and you will find it i guess.

vlc has a command for going to the next track and another one for fast forward
and rewind. is quicktime like that?

I have sound files from which I transcribe conversations. this requires moving
back and forth a lot especially with the old files that were recorded decades
ago. lately vlc has been squirrely and becomes unresponsive when I use it for
this purpose. I thought I might try quicktime player. how do
