Hi George,
I had no problem getting my device backed up. I suspect that the issue is the
one that ET pointed out, if Apple has indeed pulled the release of 9.3. So, my
plan is to wait a few days, see if anything changes, and if not contact Apple.

after this is finished on your iPod do a backup to iCloud useing your iPod in
settings, iCloud and down at the bottom look to see that backup is turned on
then exit out of settings to the h

Well, this just gets weirder and weirder. I've got my iPod connected to
iTunes, and pressed Check for update, and iTunes tells me that the current
version 9.2 is up to date. Now I really don't know what to do.

are you connectted to iCloud on your iTouch?
if so besure backup is turned on and then exit out of settings and on your home
screen plug in your device, and lock the device and let it do a backup of it
