He was specific. it happened when he started up his mac so how can apps be open
when you do that. sure you land on the finder but yeah the instructions that
were given by the prior poster were accurate.

Try this.
go to system prefs. select Keybarod and ensure the keyboard tab is highlighted.
then uncheck the box where it says show character viewer.
