It sounds like you’re getting the wooshing sound that you hear when you activate Mission control. ET, Those items in the table of sounds are the “Alert” sound that is generated by control-G in her terminal or beep in AppleScript. A little lower in the table is a check box for sound effects and is only a checkbox. I have not studied if MacOS X has any preferences to adjust sound schemes like
