Oh ok yes. I was trashed by an issue for the last few days that finally got resolved today so was not thinking clearly. I disabled the user interface sound so will see if that is what I want. There are some instances where I don't want to hear a sound effect that plays at the same time with VO speech.

ET,

Those items in the table of sounds are the “Alert” sound that is generated by
control-G in her terminal or beep in AppleScript. A little lower in the table
is a check box for sound effects and is only a checkbox. I have not studied if
MacOS X has any preferences to adjust sound schemes like other OS systems do. I
wouldn’t think it would be too hard to do this, and in fact there were a lot of
hacks to Mac OS 9 and probably 7 to change or add different sounds. My
favorite add-on in those days was a Oscar feature that sang a song about trash
every time you emptied the trash and also had an animation where Oscar the
Grouch would poke his head out of the trash can.

“Oh I love trash”.

In System Preferences, Sounds, under the Sound Effects tab, we have a table
of the built-in sound effects. there is no information on what action activates
each sound. Or perhaps what I am actually looking for is related to user
interface sounds and in that case, is it possible to disable specific sounds?
Anyone know?
