If I'm understanding correctly, you're using the same Apple ID but want your
iMessages to remain private. If that's the case, you would also have multiple
phone numbers attached to that same Apple ID. So, on your Mac, in the Messages
app, go to Preferences in the Accounts pane. Select yo
My Messages sync correctly on my iPhone but my Mac is new and on my Mac only
see messages that come in to his iPhone.

You might have to create you're own apple ID to just receive you're own message
separate from his.
