I am sorry you have had to go through this experience. I have a couple of
suggestions when you get your replacement machine. By default, the function
keys control Media features. Function Key 11 and Function key 12 control
volume. So that’s a quick way to decrease or increase volume.
I feel your pain.
For what it’s worth, once your new Mac gets there, you will enjoy it. Sorry
you had to go through this, I know well how frustrating it is.

replaced. Trying to erase the macintosh hd, and as you said, the OS couldn’t
be reinstalled. What a horrible journey. Sleepless night and I’m in turmoil.

I did get to recovery and tried to erase the hard drive and then reinstall from
scratch. I think I may have messed things up since I got a message the start
up disk couldn’t be verified. So I was stuck. I tried again to play around
with volumes and f

so obvious, but of course you’ve checked the volume to make sure that it isn’t
down so low that you can’t hear it. Excuse the insulting question but sometimes

I don’t think that matters. The voice that I was using was the Victoria voice,
so it did not need to be downloaded.

Yes, you can definitely get into Recovery on your own. In fact, the Recovery
stuff on the M1 Macs is even more accessible than that of the older Intel or

It is the same command. You can use either cmd-f5, or hold down the cmd key
and triple press the power button/fingerprint sensor.
If you have a sighted person around, have them check if audio is muted in the
VoiceOver Utility under the Sound category. Do you hear any noise at all when
