Yes Home Sharing is on and computer is authorized too.
My suspicions were confirmed. Played some episodes from two series
and after closing then opening the TV app again, they remain marked as
watched. I did find the .xml file (just one) and it's in the Home
folder. It was written to as

I tend to do similar. What columns are visible in your table for the list of
TV shows or movies? If you press cmd-j, you can have it also show the last
date played. See if you can learn more with that field visible.
