PDF Pen products have been developed for several years and I know its pro
version can be used to create PDF books more precisely than the built in tools.
That being said, I read release notes of the new Firefox 88 saying they support
PDF form completion. So, I would first download Firefox and se
Hi,
My last contact with the developers said that it's accessibility on the iOS
platform was behind its accessibility on the Mac. I haven't actually installed
it yet though, so can't make any good comments on its true accessibility on iOS.
You may wish to contact them, they are quite quick at
Ok, I don’t remember if I ever said, but if you use the program just to lead
pdf files, I found reading page by page works fine. I’ve only done that short
files, so I don’t know what would happen if you read a longer one and didn’t
convert to something.

Thanks all for the recommendations.

It's AU$159 in my Mac App Store however the software wil no doubt be useful in
the classroom.

Yes, I like the export capability as well. In the demo you only get RTF
and TXT export. Also a smile logo will be embeded at the end of every
page whenever you save or print. Otherwise it's fully functional so you
are welcome to try it for as long as you like then purchase a license

I agree, even though we can’t do everything that software is able to do. Maybe
that will change some time, who knows. But it is faster than using Windows with
JAWS, at least it was when I was using Windows. The OCR feature is
instantaneous, practically. Also, with the Pro version, you can create
I must admit, I got similar results with both products.

Actually, I like PDF Pen pro for OC images, not only because it’s fast, but
also because I think it’s easier for this purpose than Fine Reader. Just my
opinion on that one. However, Fine Reader does some things PDF Pen Pro doesn’t,
like scanning. So, I guess it depends on what one needs there.
Aw yes! Will have to check Abbyy FineReader out. May have to be a trial though
until I can fund more credit to my iTunes account; this is my personal
preference for paying in the iTunes/App Stores.

Is this appa available on the Mac App Store? And I have Fine Reader,
what is the difference between both? Is this a lighter OCR app?

The answer is no. PDFPen and PDF Pro are as yet not good applications for
reading PDFs. Their main function at this point is for filling in interactive
PDF forms. They do not allow you to navigate by heading, list, paragraph
etcetera. They do not even allow you to navigate by line. The only way
Hi there
Are you talking about those files that are made accessible, like those tax
files that IRS does? I think so because when I was using JAWS it said something
about tagging. If that's what you talking about, the answer is yes. I did a
1040 form this past tax year, and I believe that thing
Does PDFPen understand tagged PDf files? I saw that MacUpdate is having a
promotion on DFPen, and I hate having to switch over to Windows to get proper
layout and reading of headings in my PDF documents.
Best wishes,

To do that you just type as normal.

Good thinking. We'd have better spacial awareness on the iPhone/iPad. The iPad
would probably be even better as there's more screen real estate. If we did
OCR, we could work out the proximity of the form field and the prompt text,
presuming Smile got PDFPen to work as nicely as iBooks and Kindle
Hi there
Last evening, it occurred to me that form filling out for us might can be made
to work for us on the iPhone. I have PDF Pen for the iPhone, and I am wondering
if form filling out could made to work on it too so that we could work with it
as well. Sometimes we can things on the iPhone t
Yeah, it would be awesome if they could figure it out, but I think it will be
difficult and perhaps a while off. In the meantime I think the more pressing
issue is for them to get other form fields such as checkboxes and pop up menus

Hi Nic
No, you understood quite well. I discovered the same things, so it's not
perfect yet. However, when I get some time, I might see if there is a way to
read line by line and therefore figure out most of the positions. I am sure
they will work on this some more and make it better. It's bett
Hi Gigi,
I've tried doing this before. PDFPen Pro did a pretty good job inserting the
form fields, but someone with vision told me that some of the fields to type
the answers were in the wrong spots/not aligned properly. They were able to
click and drag and stuff to fix it up a bit, but this wo
