Yeah, I thought that was interesting, too.
I was rather hoping I might have the option to send voice over to the
audio on the TV I'm using for a monitor, since the connection is hdmi
and OS X recognized the monitor right away. But, it hasn't shown up
anywhere as an audio option so far.

terminal:
sudo scutil --set cantata
did the trick.

directions except that it advised doing so from a second account with
administrative privileges.

However, here's a somewhat bigger concern. The setup wizzard
concatinated my name to create the

If you go to system preferences and users, and choose logging options, one of
the choices is to enable voiceover on login screen. This should solve your
problem of not having speech when logging in.
