Hi,
An even easier and more automated way of doing this is to use the PhotoStream
service in iCloud. Simply go to your iCloud settings on your iPhone, make sure
that PhotoStream is enabled. Also, do the same in the iCloud pane of System
Prefs. Then in iPhoto Prefs you can tweak the settings

when you plug the iphone in you should get a dialog asking if you want to
import photos.

When you plug in your iPhone the pictures should be imported into iPhoto!
Personally I use Dropbox.
