Apologies, I thought I had replied to the list that I had solved the issue. By
2 forced resets and I was able to start VO by doing a triple clip of the home
button. I knew the volume was okay as it was chattering which I assumed it
meant that the backup had completed. But it just see
Also, connect directly with your cables to iTunes and restart accessibility.
One of the issues is this can get to a state where triple press wasn’t enabled
and voice over gets stuck so starting with Siri doesn’t work.
Like Simon suggests as well, check your volume first but if all else fails

Have you tried increasing the Volume to see if it's turned up?
I've heard of this happening before,
Also if you've had Bluetooth headphones or speakers connected check that they
aren't on and taking over the audio.
The other thing to check would be a triple press of the home key
It's moments like these when I start looking around for somebody who is not
blind. Sometimes a little cited help really does the trick.
