+1, this is file vault. On the 2011 models unfortunately, I don’t believe
voice is supported, I think you have to work with the beeps.

Not sure what has happened there but I'd be inclined to try reinstalling again
using the recovery that’s holding down command + R at start up and hold those
down for approx. 20 seconds, it doesn't need to be that long but I just do that
to make sure it starts up in the correct mode.

File Vault is probably what is going on here. You can on at least some
computers turn on voice prompts for the FileVault login with command F5. But
certainly the fact that it powers off without really booting is what happens to
me if I don't enter Username/Password after power on.

You might want to try booting into recovery partition and performing "first
aid" on your macintosh hard drive to make sure it's not damaged.
To boot into recovery partition, shut down the computer, and press the power
