Hi Frank,
I didn't see this thread earlier but I thought I'd respond. Yeah, it's
maddening how VoiceOver keeps reading from the top. One method that will work
for setting a placeholder is to use a hot spot. If, for example, you

Hi
So I tried pages. It does work much better.. I was able to switch away and
come back and still be in the same place. That is until I asked it to read all
and it took me to the top of the document. This is driving me mad. Anyone
know how to get around this one?
Thanks

Sure. Actually I had put it in to text edit and similar troubles were found
when switching away and back again. I'll try pages.
Thanks

Hello Frank,
If you don't need to see how words are spelt or anything like that, I would
recommend GhostReader from ConvenienceWare. Using this application is like
listening to a tape recording but with a bit more control.
It has the standard Play, Pause, Resume, Rewind and Fast forward control
I'm glad you asked this question; though I haven't had a lot of trouble, I
don't understand much about how preview works. I make it work more by
plundering around, rather than smarts.

Hello
Does anyone know if there have been any improvements. This problem is killing
me. I have a 1200 page document that I need to read and this keeps being a
huge pain. I will certainly be logging out and turning VO on and off. Also
remembering to turn off cursor tracking will certainly fi
Thanks so much! I knew you'd have a work around! :)

Hi Olivia,
You need to set a hot spot if you want to go back to the same location
in Preview after shifting to another app. Before you navigate away
from Preview, press VO-Shift-1 (or any other number key that you want
to assign to th hot spot). You'll hear VoiceOver say, "Save as

Interesting. I also find that I loose focus when I navigate to another
application. For instance, if I am reading a PDF in prieview, and go to text
edit to take notes on what I'm reading, when I return to the PDF, I am placed
back at the beginning of the document. This makes reading articles a
Hi,
As Marie says, the key is interacting with the text in Preview. If
you can't read continuously after interacting, check your PDF Display
settings under the View menu on Preview's menu bar (VO-M to the menu

There is an fn key on my keyboard. Try hitting fn plus left and right for home
and end and up and down for page up and page down.
Good luck.

See, I knew I was missing something. Yes, Marie, interacting with the
text works great. :)
Olivia, the only thing I could think of is to use the "go to page"
function, command-shift-g. No page functions on the new keyboards?
That's very odd.

How does this work on the new Apple keyboards with no "page down" function? I
have the same issue.

to use VO-A once moving away from the start of the document. Try interacting
with the text. That helps in other apps for me.

Hi, folk,
I'm not sure if I'm missing something fundamental here, but the only way I can
read a document in Preview is to press VO-A to start, then when it reaches the
end of the page, I press page-down and then space when it says "next". When it
reaches a subsequent page, I can only move to th
