You should have gotten a dialog to sync your new password to your keychain.
This is so you never have to think about unlocking your keychain.

Is it the login window? You might have to enter your password or there
might be a dialog telling you about your keychain password needing to reset.
Do you have VoiceOver speech?

Try doing a VO-m when the recovery HD comes up. There should be a Utilities
menu. If you go down it, you'll find, Terminal, there. Let me know if I
misunderstood you though.

Yes, it's accessible. You have to boot into your Recovery HD by holding
down command-r during startup. Then, start VoiceOver after about 30 seconds
with command-F5.

Hi John,
I know I am going to have to do this before I can really move

No, but you won't be able to unlock preferences or install apps without
knowing the password for your account. You can reset it, but it's a pain in
the backside to do.

Yes, it's your system or account password. You should only be asked this

The easiest way to jump between the sidebar and the browser window in
Finder is to use control-option-j. It automatically interacts for you and
saves you steps.
