Robert,
Do you happen  to have a bluetooth neckloop.  Mine works very well.  Don't 
useit much now that I've lived with the speech for a while, but it was a real 
when getting started.
Also I had to adjust some of the speech settings for better understandability, 
especially the  intonation setting, but the settings really are personal.  I do 
suggest playing around with them though.
I haven't tried this myself, but you might also get a wired loop to work 
through theheadphone jack.  
Just some ideas.  
At first, I alsoslowed the speech rate down a bit, but I've gotten used to it, 
so havespeeded it back up.
