Thank you so much for your help and suggestions for making navigation easier.
Sometimes just learning from people what to enable and disable for things makes
all the difference.
Yes, I tried the trackpad, although I don't know if my Snow Leopard has a Magic
Trackpad. I think it is called a

Actually you can use the number commander with a laptop keyboard. Just hold
down one of the arrow keys, actually I think it's the right arrow and use the
number row.

Hi, Linda,
In the VO utility, you can go to the navigation tab, and choose the item that
says, "interact with items when using tab key". That way, you can tab between
your messages and mailbox list.

Hello Geoff,
Doesn't it annoy you that just navigating to a message causes it to open? I
like to be able to decide whether to open a message now or leave it until
later, then go back and find the unread messages.
I just use the down arrow to skim through the messages, sometimes reading the

Greetings,
Different strokes for different folks I suppose; I couldn't live without the
preview pane. For grins I tried to figure out how to disable it. There does
not appear to be an applicable option in the view pull down menu, preferences
or clicking on the splitter. I looked in this list
Hello Linda,
I've never been a Windows user but I might be able to help with some answers.

The Magic Trackpad will work on any machine running Snow Leopard. I use one

Hmm,
I'm not sure if it will work on a mac that old. I guess you can always return
it if it doesn't work though.

h,
I am intrigued. my machine is a desktop equipped to handle a mouse. I am not
sure that this would work in the same way as a trackpad (gestures would
certainly vary). I happen to also find some of the key combinations to be
irritatingly non-relevant to their functions.

Hi Linda,
What flavor of Mac do you have? Does it have a trackpad? If so would you be
willing to consider that interface as an alternative to the keyboard?
Personally I became extremely disgusted with the fact that all VO commands

example, on the web, you move item by item rather than line by line. Thing
Sorry. Unless I'm wrong all of your answers will be no. vo does lay out the
webpage the way a sighted user sees it on the screen making it easy for
explanations if possible.
You can always use the track pad if you have one and flick and double tap thus
sort of freeing up a hand.
Good luck.
