Yep, that's a good indication. Also, at the log-on screen, you're placed in a list of all the accounts on your computer you can log in to, which you could use the arrow keys to go through, and if you press the down arrow a few times and only hear one name, yours, that's another way to tell you'

Sometimes when I turn on my computer it sends me to a screen in which it asks me for my password. I enter it and then it takes me to the main screen where I see the icons but voiceover does not start and I cannot command it to start and I cannot use the apple menu because it's not there to shut
