If you are visually impaired, you only pay half the cost of a licence. If you
are over 75, the TV Licence is free for the elderly. If you live with others,
then they don't need to pay for the licence.

The reason why people in the UK need to pay TV licences is because it pays
employees and the BBC Corporation staff their wages. Also, the BBC is a non
commercial public broadcasting organisation so you get no adverts as you may
know although BBC America may have

Until recently I used to make extensive use of the program “get iPlayer
Automator” on my iMac. This let me download BBC TV programs which I could
subsequently transfer to my iPod Nano to listen to. There was an option to
download the TV programs with audio description.
