Hi Scott, It's only been in the passed 20 years that NZ has gotten rid of it's tv licencing
Can't say I've ever had one in the 30 years I've had a tv but we did have it. Now days it's as you say taxs and advertising pay the bills for the tv companys we have. And radio, But even when we did have licences we still had tv and radio advertising so it was a way of the government to be able to get money with out trying. Probably why most people just didn't pay. -----Original Message----- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Scott Granados Sent: Friday, 23 June 2017 8:30 AM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Downloading TV programs from the BBC BBC America is run like any other American TV station with commercials sprinkled through out the programming. I still don’t get paying for a license to pick up free over the air broadcasts. You pay taxes right? So you’re telling me you have VAT and high income taxes and all sorts of fees and they still charge you for public broadcasting? Wow. We have public broadcasting here as well that doesn’t have commercials in the same way that regular TV does but it’s available for free over the air. Part of the funds are extracted at the end of a barrel of a gun in our taxes we have to pay:) and part is raised by donations by individuals and corporations. Everything from the MacArthur foundation to my dear departed Grand Mother can be found donating to public broadcasting. At least in your case, BBC programming is worth paying for. You have great programming there and the F1 coverage is top shelf. Interesting how different regions and countries do things. What does a license cost per year if you don’t mind me asking. > On Jun 22, 2017, at 4:24 PM, Kawal Gucukoglu <kgli...@icloud.com> wrote: > > Hi Scott. > > Thanks for replying. > > The reason why people in the UK need to pay TV licences is because it pays > employees and the BBC Corporation staff their wages.
