Yes, it is a service. When you purchase from the Apple site, or Amazon, you
are sent a code in the mail. When you receive the code, you enter it on your
mobile me account. I don't know why it's less expensive on amazon, but I have
purchased it myself with success. You can also get the $69 pr
$99 for a year, but I think you can get a 30 day free trail from Apple's site.
