Go in to your home folder and open the library folder. Look in folders such as
preferences and application support, and delete anything that refers to skype.

Skype has a feature that should tell you this. In the preferences, it's under
notifications. It says, your contact, person's name is either available or
unavailable. If you have set this in notifications and it's still not working,
you may want to delete the skype support files such as the prefe

I get online and offline notifications via growl quite often. Are you using
SKype's native notification or its Growl support? Another thing to keep in
mind is that speech isn't currently able to handle multiple processes very
well, there's a good chance something gets lost in the shu

I've checked the boxes for speak text on contact becomes available and
unavailable. let's see what I get. Thanks for being so helpful. I
just think it's such a cool amenity, and I'd love to see it work.

Ok in the place for events that you can select what event does what thing!
On mine where it says speak text, it has in all events like [ online] it has
"@" before the came online!
So if in yours there is no "@" try adding it!
Or it might be you have not set them up in notifications in Sk
I did change my Growler settings to Speech. Weird thing is, in Skype,
when someone comes on or offline,All the voice says is "went offline,"
or "Went online." Doesn't give me a name until I scroll down through
my Skype online contacts to see what's different. Any ideas?

The weird thing is, I've heard Voiceover say, growler app, but I don't
see anything on the screen with my vision and I've never known what it
related to. I'll see if I can find bad thing in the preference panes

setting until you just said. But, as it happens, not sure if it's just
my machines or what, but speech, if there's VoiceOver running too,
