I use Fastmail. They have three paid plans depending on how much you want to administrate, store, micro manage, etc. Plans can be very simple or very professional depending on your needs. And if you decide you want a domain you can also have that and purchase it right from www.fastmail.com

I would suggest purchasing a domain name, then associating it with an e-mail provider. You can change provider without ever changing your e-mail address. There are plenty of online tutorials to assist in doing it. I’ve never used Fastmail, but I’ve read positive comments about their services else
