DO you happen to be in the Hi Sierra beta program?
If the later is yes there seem to be a bug with usb and vmware.
I can also recommend the vmware knowledge base which is quite informative.

What I'm trying to do is get rid of the searching for mouse dialogue
and have something I can use in my lap. The three products I mentioned
hold an apple keyboard and trackpad together so they are like one
unit.
