As long as your sitting on the folder in the applications folder command
backspace moves the item to the trash.

I attempted to put in the Skype beta and not sure what happened but
now i am unable to delete the skype folder from applications. Does
anyone know how I can do this. I have tried cmd delete, delete by
itself, cmd x and backspace..

As far as skype goes, the only time it acts sluggish is when I am in a
chat. Other than that, I don't have issues with it.
Usually, it stops acting slugghis after a while, and if it does not,
then, you need to relaunch skype.

2.8 has the same behaviour here too on a Macbook Pro, and as you say,
2.7 seems not too, so that's what I've gone back too. I have no idea
what causes it, but thought it might be helpful to know that it's not
