I am able to import the external material into LyX but
I am not able to generate a DVI. I'm getting some
errors like this ...

I'm using Lyx1.4.1 on a mac running OS10.4.5...I'm trying to import a
perfectly fine LaTeX file prepared in Texshop. My problem is that
when the file comes in, every apostrophe and dash is encoded as
nonsense character strings. I've tried setting Texshop to produce

I don't run Windows any longer, but could you put the Aspell stuff in
the same directory as the Lyx code on a USB stick? Many programs will
look first in the directory the program is running in before seeking
an external location, after all.

version of lyx for suse 10.x. So, is there its i586 version?

Well, this seems like a serious problem, not one where we should say
"there's nothing to do".
I'd suggest that LyX SHOULD NOT offer to export documents to pdf when
they have eps files in them, or at least users need a VERY BIG warning
because a lot of users will get in trouble unless they proof r
