I'd suggest you try "locate texmf.cnf". Eg:
/home/rgheck/ > locate texmf.cnf

part, not a document that was too big or anything like that.

I just installed the new version 1.2.0, and although it works fairly well I
have a big problem with RevTeX. The install went clean, BTW.
