But that's the point, my /usr/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf file includes: TEXMFHOME = $HOME/texmf but apparently none of these environmental variables is set, i.e echo $TEXMFHOME yields a blank line. What do I have to do in order to get these environmental variables set? Thanks Agus Richard He

Thanks!! It worked! Nevertheless, it would be better being able to add these classes to the user directory (i.e. under /home/alobo/tex/latex). This should be a matter of adding that directory to the path somehow, and I would appreciate if anybody could let me know for the future. But your advice
