Paul,
Thanks for your answer.
1. I appologize not mentioning I'm using Lyx 1.6.5 on ubuntu 9.10
2. kpsewhich svjour3.cls does not produce any result, despite the fact I do have
/home/alobo/tex/latex/svjour3/svjour3.cls
It could well be that /home/alobo/tex is not the LaTeX search path.
3. I do have /usr/share/lyx/layouts/svglobal3.layout, but have that class liste as Unavailable.
That's consistent with svjour3.cls being invisible.
4. You say: "Install the corresponding LaTeX class (exactly how depends on your distribution) and then reconfigure LyX." but how? I've followed directions from /usr/share/lyx/doc/Customization.lyx,
which I thought was the official directions.
You did all the right steps (if I recall your previous post correctly), but I'm not sure you put svjour3.cls in the right place. Try running 'kpsewhich -show-path=tex' in a terminal. It will show you the complete search path for class files. If /home/alobo/tex does not show up, you might try moving the Springer files to .../tex/latex/svjour3/ where ... /tex does show up on the path (then sudo texhash, reconfigure and restart LyX).
