On my Windows box (yes, I am East of the Paradise, for a while :-) and using Acrobat
Reader 4.0, there are no problems with text (File/Info/Fonts shows that, they are
Type1 Helevetica and Times-Roman), but the pictures are exceedinlgy ugly (smeared and
reddish). Same with GhostScript (GSView 3.

Ah! Now I know exactly what is the problem. The images in your PDF are
compressed using a lossy compression, you could think as if they are
converted to JPEGs.

a few days ago there was a discussion about LyX and Ghostscript 6.5 on this
mailing list. Somebody reported that there are problems concerning the
collaboration between LyX and gs 6.5 but - afaik - did not specify them.
