preview and then type \S in the math box, the symbol comes. So may be
there is no need to insert it as a latex command

I had msys installed in c:\MSYS\1.0\bin
That was the default path for me. But the default path for lyx was in
program files. When I shifted lyx also to c:\lyx; Tex information works
perfectly. Thanks Stephen for the tip

Is there any way to install a new icon in the toolbar. I made a new xpm
file for the spellchecker command (Not sure whether I am doing it in the
right way. All I did was change an existing xpm file to this). I added
it to the list of icons, but it doesn't show up. I installed Lyx 1.3.6.

I am trying to customize my toolbar in Win32 version of Lyx 1.3.5
There is a version available in Wiki which looks great. I am wondering
whether there is any way to make the toolbar into two lines so that I
can add more commands into the toolbar. I tried going into the user
interface file C:/lyx/sh
I am not sure whether this would help.
Go to edit - preferences-converters.
Here you might have to specify the converters for the respective figure
types (jpg, gif) etc. So create a new converter for each of these to
convert it to eps. Here specify the converter as convert $$i $$o.

Does that match what you have installed?
Regarding the run time error, you could try opening a DOS
prompt in the lyx\bin directory and starting LyX with the
command
lyx -dbg 999
which opens a window that might let you see any error
messages LyX generates.

I had installed. I did everything that was said in Ruurd's page but when
I click on it or do F7, I am getting the message
"The spell-checker has failed
No wordlists can be found for the language -en"
