Hhm.. doesn't work with 1.1.4. Do you happen to know if this is
included in the fix for 1.1.4? Or is it still CVS?

Never mind.

Well, did you try to run the configure script as suggested in the
textclass file? The script should reside in /usr/local/lyx-1.1.4/lib.

If it's a dead key and you want the accent only, you should be able to
type ^ followed by a space. Is that what you mean?

FYI: I did that with 1.1.3, if that makes a difference. I'll try
1.1.4 soon and if anything goes wrong, I'll let you know. Thanks for
walking me through this ;)

It's not that I'm afraid, it's just that I don't have the foggyest
idea about coding. This is going to be a blind flight, but I'll give
it a shot for the fun of it -- and probably watch Lyx bomb ;)

Yes, you're right, of course. But I guess it should be possible to
modify the latin1.def to create a latin9.def for use with inputenc;
it's still 8bit after all and the two encodings differ only in six
glyphs.
It's a lucky coincidence to encounter a french Latex user. How do you
en typing the letter sz on

You need to set the input encoding to latin1.

Latex package that can cope with this?
Oh, I'm on Debian with XF86 3.3.5, Tetex 1.0.5, and Lyx 1.1.2.

Anyway, a decent FAQ is probably the best way to get started. See
http://adept.cs.twsu.edu/doc/tetex-doc/texmf/help/faq/uktug-faq/
and maybe browse

higher quality, they can save you a lot of trouble when generating

Is there something like 'LatexType Def' for use in *.layout files
which works like 'LatexType Command' but puts '\def\name{Text}'

Is it possible to bind arbitrary (non-math) symbols to a key, so that
'C-i less' would insert '\guilsinglleft' for example? The 'math-
insert' and 'symbol-insert' functions seem to work only with a small
set of math symbols.
