SVG->EPS rendering by inkscape, which this script uses, is crappy. i strongly suggest that it is not used. http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/PrintingConsensusPoll scribus should be way better outputting EPS, however, scribus misinterprets SVG images drawn in inkscape (and in general afaik).

i have now testet multicol it is not wise to switch multicol on and off inside a document, because you get text broken in a nasty way. regular two columns means that you read one column from top to bottom, and then the next. if you break the columns by switching off two column mode to insert a ful
