us 'exports' and 'updates' from all those pull-downs before calling
the viewer but to no luck. I have to quit and restart LyX in order to
see the changes.

No. If I do exactly what you suggest I get:
[baiti@blackbox]$ makeindex sparch.tex
This is makeindex, version 2.13 [07-Mar-1997] (using kpathsea).

Actually, this is exactly what I am doing and it results in the
statement in the .lyx file as I have shown it in the referenced
posting. Sorry for not stating that precisely in the first place.

utput does not have an index listing.
Does anybody have a suggestion how to get index listing back?

I have a situation here where a figure is placed at the bottom of a page
_below_ the footnotes which go on this page. For float placement I have
specified "htb". Does anybody know how to avoid this? From my
perspective, footnotes should really be at the bottom of a page.

'acroread' does display
the output correctly and so does 'xpdf' however, 'gv' still selects
Portrait mode but text is displayed correctly except that the rightmost
20% of the presentation is totally cut off on all pages. Any thoughts?

have been unable to convince LyX to not start
the GUI and just do the exporting. I have not found any help in the doc
files. Is anybody out there who has done something like this before?

Ideally I would like to have the old behaviour back and then when
talking about an improvement it would make sense to enhance the
mouse-selection logic such that in tables not only selection from right
to left is possible but also the selection of columns.

in the LyX GUI
- 'View -> DVI' works correctly
- 'View -> PS' works correctly
- 'View -> PDF (pdflatex)' works correctly
PS: I am using LyX 1.1.6 but the same problems were already there in
previous versions, in fact I have upgraded to 1.1.6 hopi
encountering serious problems
(core dump) whenever I include a .lyx file which contains a Bibliography
section and then do a View->DVI or any other "View" selection. If I just
load that file as a separate .lyx file I can edit and view this without
problems.
Any 'temp fixes'
under 'width' in the inculde-figure dialog, the
figure spans both columns, however, text from the other column flows
right into the picture. Playing with 'here|top|bottom' placement of
figures in the document layout dialog doesn't seem to help either.

Ideally I would rather want to avoid to learn just another frontend and
use LyX for that purpose. Any ideas? Is there probably a document class
or style sheet which does just that?

Success occurs in private and failure in full view.
y plans to implement such a feature? Would it be
available in the meantime by directly coding LaTeX tags?

should be masked with '077' but it's probably not worth to start a huge
discussion about this here. I understand what's going on and I have
configured an appropriate solution for my systems.

make 'LyX-Code' go away and replace it with 'Code'. BTW: It is not just
changing the color in the PS file to red, the '<' character also causes
some paragraph breaks in the output.

If you risk nothing then you risk everything
will now send a test version of the LyX exported SGML to the
maintainers of the Linux-HOTWO database and see whether those experts
can produce HTML out of it.
Any hints/suggestions are welcome. Any Linux-HOWTO Authors hanging out
there who have successfully used LyX to author Linux-HOWTOs?

eans it should not be changed at all. If this wasn't a requirement I
obviously could write a little script to make the necessary changes.
Ideally what I am looking for is some sort of relative chapter/section
numbering scheme where the base could be adjusted according to the level
where

/usr/local/bin/jade:0:20:7:E: element "PARA" undefined
