Well - thank's for the hint with LYX_LOCALEDIR. I set it to
/Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources/locale in
~/.MacOSX/environment.plist and now I have my German userinterface.

After more investigation, the figures that yield the conversion error

unicode and deadkeys are two different things. unicode does not work, it
is planned for 1.
