Thanks for all the help, everyone. It ends up that the problem was not
with the pdf file, but with the way I sent it. I was sending it as an
attachment using Mutt (my mail agent in linux). For some reason, this
creates a corrupt file.

Hi Miki,
Attached are several solutions I found (all are ERT) for your problem.
I also got an error from your file, but a slightly different one.
You can probably put the \newcommand in the preamble, but I haven't
tried that.
Hope this helps
Amir.
P.S.
When I compiled your file I got gibrish
Finally a question I can answer!
Click on the TeX button at the top of LyX. Now type
\copyright
This text should be in red. That's it!

I am finishing up my thesis and have to add a copyright page which happens to
use the C inside a circle copyright symbol. Does lyx/latex have such a
symbol available?

Hi,
re: Outliners
just FYI. I noticed Treepad will soon be available for Linux platform.
It exports trees/articles in XML form, so it should be very easy to write
a utility to make the XML output LyX compatible.
Just a thought.

I have had similiar problems with export->pdf.
Fortunately, lyx offer at least three ways of exporting pdf.
The two others are export->PDF(dvipdfm) and export->PDF(pdflatex)
