Suppressing page numbering

I was just wondering if there is a better way to suppress the page numbering on a title page. I used \pagestyle{empty} on the page that I wanted to suppress the page number, and then used \pagestyle{plain} where I wanted the numbering to begin (I also used \setcounter{page}{1} to get the page
