XV does a very good, albeit interactive, job at image conversions !
load the image in any format, and then save it as Postscript (with the
extension .eps), don't forget to set the compression (which is only
available for 8 bit colour images and reduces the image size by a factor
of 10 compared

I solved the problem by setting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH
with a "man loader"
setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH "/prof/ymorere/personal/xforms/lib"
It works well now.

Several people wrote about the problems with standard graphic format
conversion into eps for usage with lyx or latex.
I've used two filters to convert scanned and processed slides from jpeg
to eps with good results when printing on color laser printers and "slide
printers".

At least when you save as .eps in Stardraw it is essential to click the
"selected" option in the save-dialog. Othervise it saves the whole page as
an eps-
