In lyx 1.3 (both qt and xforms), when in text mode (ie, outside any math mode) click in the index or the exponent button in the math panel. Instead of opening a math environment and inserting a _ or ^, it remains in text mode and inserts \_ or \textasciicircum{}. Is this intentional? Joao.
