Did anybody had time to review this patch? It's quite simple: 3 added lines.
Would it be more helpful if I file a bug report in the trac? I've sent the
patch directly to the mailing list per the instructions in the development
FAQ.

No. Not even a layout format change proper, since nothing needs to be
converted and the new tags will be simply ignored by olde versions.
